"Legacy of Liberty"
The 2026–2027 South Carolina Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) State Project commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Sullivan's Island, honoring the heroics of Sergeant William Jasper and educating members about this pivotal engagement. The battle site is now Fort Moultrie National Park, located just across the river from Charleston. While the park displays several cannons — mostly from the Civil War era — none are operational.
This year, SC C.A.R. will raise funds to purchase a "Grasshopper" cannon, along with the supporting equipment and supplies needed to fire it. The cannon will enable the park to enhance special event commemorations and give visitors an engaging, hands-on education in historical artillery and 18th-century firing procedures — making the American Revolution fun and memorable.
